Archives

The following images are a few paintings that I've created and sold over the years.  Since this is a new website, I'll be adding more pieces as time allows.

Information above each picture provides more detail about the individual works of art.

THE CLIMB

This goat represents determination to overcome obstacles that often come our way.  I chose bold colors intentionally to convey the sometimes-insurmountable strength of these challenges.  The goat is both confident and peaceful, yet stronger than the challenge, planting one foot in front of the other to succeed on its journey.

This painting sold in 2022.  I used professional grade acrylics on a gallery wrapped and splined canvas.  It's 24"x36"x1.5".

MATT PARKER

You will eventually find several paintings in my archives of Matt Parker, with more to come.  He's a seasoned guide on the Salmon River based in Riggins, Idaho.  A very special person, honest and outspoken, he is also my muse.  This painting is based on a fishing trip we did on a favorite stretch of the river.

Heavy-bodied acrylics on a wrapped and splined canvas, this piece was gifted and currently has its home in Brooklyn, New York.

GIFTED

TRAPPER

This painting was inspired by 20 years of living in Alaska and influenced by lifestyles that were dictated by harsh elements.  Long, dark, and bitter cold nights started early in winter.  Because of this, being outdoors during those hours with a campfire made everything more comfortable whether you were working or relaxing with friends.

As I painted this piece, I was reminded how light and shadow from a fire cause everything to glow red orange.  I started by covering the entire canvas with random brushstrokes using only two colors.  I then stood back and rotated the canvas several times until I saw the beginnings of this person - who is nobody I know.

This is an acrylic painting on a gallery-wrapped and splined canvas.  24"x36"1.5".

STEELHEAD MIGRATION

The journey of migrating Steelhead and Salmon is a phenomenon that our river community revolves around.  Many jobs depend on their return each year.  Hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, Fish & Game employees, fishing guides, food foragers ~ everyone looks forward to our fishing season throughout Idaho for either food, sport, or jobs.

I spent quite a bit of time fishing for both Steelhead and Salmon the first several years after moving to Riggins, and many years in Alaska.  Reeling them into the boat or onto shore was always a moving experience - moving me to tears most of the time.

This painting sold in 2018 at the Bistro 45 courtyard art show in McCall, Idaho.  I used professional grade acrylics on a gallery wrapped and splined canvas.  It's 18"x24"x1.5".  Steel Migration's new home is in McCall.

MANNING BRIDGE VIEW

This view from Manning Bridge above Salmon River near Riggins, Idaho, is my interpretation of what you see looking upriver.

An oil painting, this is based on a picture taken from the bridge last April, 2025.  It was a cloudy, overcast morning and at the moment I snapped the shot, sunlight was struggling to touch as much as it could before being blocked by more dark clouds.

Professional grade oil paints on a 24"x36"x1.5" wrapped and splined canvas, this painting has found its forever home in Ennis, Montana.  It sold to a wonderful friend from school-age years who reconnected, along with his wife, several years ago.  His wife recently passed and was one of my good friends from those years.

I feel privileged to have this piece hanging in their home.

SALMON RIVER VIEW

The view of this painting is from a pullout on Salmon River Road near Riggins, Idaho, that looks back at Island Bar and Berg Ranch.  The pullout is high above the river.  Many people stop there to watch rafters heading down river.  I happened to have friends rafting that section when I took pictures for reference while painting this piece.  Rather than include them, I chose to focus on the river and surroundings.

I donated the painting to a local fundraiser run by river guides who organize the annual Big Water Blowout in Riggins.  A raffle is held for weeks, sometimes months, before hand and a winner's name is randomly picked from a large jar by someone in the audience ~ usually a child.

This year (2025), the winner was a local realtor ~ so the painting will remain here in town as long as she does!

Professional grade acrylics on a gallery wrapped and splined canvas.  It's 24"x36"x1.5".
